Weekend
Saturday consisted of a trip to San Diego for my cousin's 1st birthday party. I usually try to take the train when I travel to San Diego but there was some construction going on this weekend so I decided against it. The best part about the long drive home from a kid's birthday party... the huge bag of candy you've acquired to keep you awake.
Sunday so far looks a lot like the photo above, plus my computer and Parks and Rec on Netflix. I've been spending a little time going through my blogroll today. Here are a few of my favorite posts (with some of the prettiest photos) from the past week...

Halloween Peanut Butter Cups
I only make these twice a year... around Halloween and Christmas. Why only twice a year? Because I can't stop eating them! You might want to cut this recipe in half because it makes about 100 cups. I like to make this many and then pass them out to friends and neighbors.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- 4 1/2 cups smooth peanut butter
- 9 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 lbs dark chocolate (I use Merckens melting chocolate)
- small paper candy cups
- new clean paintbrush
- Paramount Crystals for thinning the chocolate (optional)
- Halloween sprinkles (optional)
Combine sugar, peanut butter, and butter in an electric mixer.
Beat on medium speed until combined.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave heating in 10 second increments and stirring in between. Using the paintbrush, brush the insides of each paper cup with chocolate until well coated.
When the chocolate has hardened, fill each cup with some of the peanut butter mixture, leaving plenty of room on top.
Use a spoon to fill the top of the cups with chocolate. Sprinkle with Halloween sprinkles if you like.
Chill the peanut butter cups in the freezer for about 20 minutes.

DIY: Spooky Skeleton Necklace
It's time for another Halloween DIY! This is definitely one of my favorites, and it's SO simple!
What you'll need:
- a styrofoam skeleton hand (I found mine in this Bag of Bones, from a local Halloween store)
- a chain or circular metal necklace (I used one from a necklace I already have)
- sandpaper
- wire/cable cutting pliers
- sharp metal pick
Pull the fingers off of the skeleton hands. I just twisted them and they came right off.
Cut the excess wire off at the broken part of each finger. Sand them down until smooth.
Using a sharp metal pick, poke a hole just below the sanded part of each finger.
String the fingers on to your chain or wire circular necklace.
TA DA!
There are many different ways to do this project. If you use a plastic skeleton hand, I recommend drilling the holes. Also, I considered spray painting the fingers silver but decided to keep them as is. The possibilities are endless!

Halloween Etsy Favorites
It's day two of Halloween Week here on the blog and I've decided to share my Etsy 'Friday Favorites' with you a little early. This way, if you see something you love, you have a little time before Halloween to purchase it! DIY: Gnome Costume
Today is the first day of HALLOWEEN WEEK here on the blog! I thought I would kick things off with a costume DIY. This is a seriously simple costume to make and as far as I'm concerned, simple is the way to go... I mean, you're only going to wear it once or twice anyway, right?
There are two parts to this costume: the items you make and the items you buy. Of course you could always make your dress, but I took the easy route and bought mine. I think I found it at Forever 21. You're also going to need a pair of boots. I decided to use my rain boots. The only thing I'm missing is a belt!
So, let's talk hat and beard. These are the parts I made.
What you'll need:
- poster board
- red felt
- white felt
- ribbon
- hot glue
- sewing machine
To make the hat... roll a piece of poster board into a cone shape and make sure it fits your head. Wrap red felt around the cone and hot glue it into place. Hot glue two pieces of ribbon on to opposite sides of the inside. Use these to secure the hat on to your head.
To make the beard... either draw a template or find a photo of a beard and mustache that you like online and print it out. Trace the beard on to the white felt twice and cut out both pieces. Sandwich two pieces of ribbon (one on either side) in between the beards. Sew along the edge.
Pretty simple, right? If you don't feel like sewing a beard, you could always just hot glue some cotton balls on to a white piece of fabric and wrap it around your face like a bandana.

Friday Favorites: Woodland Edition
I made the mistake of searching "woodland" on Etsy last night. The amount of cute items is seriously overwhelming. If you decide to search for yourself, be prepared to stay a while! After about 50 pages, I forced myself to stop but still managed to find plenty of adorable things. Here are a few of my "woodland" favorites!
I couldn't help myself. I bought those vinyl decals for my laptop and I can't wait for them to arrive!
