My mom and I were recently discussing Nora Ephron and her hilarious book, I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman. Upon reading a few excerpts, I was immediately inspired to create a new feature here on the blog. I'm calling it... Let's Get Real. I'm going to be sharing some of my thoughts on being a woman... you know, little things here and there that you might not see everyday in this crazy little blog world.
Today I'm going to talk a little bit about fashion. Sometimes I enviously look at fashion bloggers and think to myself, "Wow... that's such a cute outfit. I should really put more effort into my clothes." Well, the truth is, I could try harder but what I wear everyday is really far down on my list of priorities. I'm just not a fashion-y kind of girl, and I think there are a lot of you out there that feel me on this. Why not share that? It's nothing to be ashamed of. There's nothing wrong with jeans and t-shirts. They're comfortable! The simpler the better. That's my motto. So... let's talk shoes, shall we?
These are my shoes. They're dirty and falling apart. Is that tacky? Wait... let's be honest... I don't really care. Sometimes I wear Vans and sometimes I wear Converse, although the Converse usually win. On the weekends, when I'm running errands and I'm extra lazy, I'll wear flip flops. That's it! Sure I own heels but I don't wear them unless I absolutely have to. Of course I understand having to dress up for work but I've been lucky enough to have jobs with casual dress codes. This extreme love for Converse makes me wonder if I'll ever be too old for them. Will I look ridiculous wearing them at 60? Possibly. Will I wear them anyway and bask in their comfort? Definitely.
Lol I love this post! I actually enjoying dressing up, but I totally get not being into fashion. For me, I love dresses and clothes, but I couldn't care less about shoes. I'll wear some cutesy dress and then have on my vibrams (toe shoes). I'll wear comfy shoes over heels any day! Even if it means it ruins an outfit.

Haha, yes! I feel like I can be so much more productive in comfortable shoes.
DeleteI like the idea for the series. Can't wait to hear more. I find that the older I get the more I'm dressing for me. I know what kinds of clothes complement me (my style and what I do).
ReplyDeleteVery true. I like the idea of "dressing for me".
DeleteYes, I'm with you on this. I usually wear about a one inch heel because it's best for my legs, but rarely anything higher than that. And the pair of shoes which I wear most days is very much on its last legs - I should be embarrassed to wear those shoes to work because they're so tatty, but the thought of having to go and find another pair of smart, interesting, goes-with-everything, comfortable shoes seems overwhelming; that's just *not* an exciting shopping trip for me!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading more of this series!
Thanks, Sarah! I love that we're on the same page. I've decided to try buying a new pair online since I know my size in both Vans and Converse. Hope it works! I hate shopping too!
DeleteThank you for being real. I am similar to you and wear my vans or my converse, I am a youth worker and see no point getting dressed up for work so will wear jeans and hoodies. I envy fashion bloggers who always look 'cute' and that always manage to do an outfit of the day. But this isn't me I like to be comfy! Does that make me sound like i'm 60?

No way, Laura! I'm right there with you! :)
DeleteNO WAY will you ever look weird as an old lady wearing converse. I only own one pair of heels and i never wear them. Us ladies have to wear what feels right, and for me and you.. it's cons and vans :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could "like" that. ;)
DeleteHa! I love it + someone who feels as I do + I work in an office + but it's casual + when I dress up my friends and family get suspicious + I've fallen into this gray comfy zone where all I need is a good bag + a comfortable pair of shoes and an outfit that versatile enough for work + or play + cause let's face it + clothoes aren't getting any cheaper + and at the end of the day + I don't want folks remembering me for what I wore + but moreso who I am...
