Last Minute Decorating

It's almost Halloween! If you're finding yourself itching for just one last Halloween craft like I was, why not make some of these simple fabric ghosts to hang around your home or yard? This is a perfect craft for kids too! Here's what you'll need...

I made a few different sizes using fabric squares ranging from 6"x6" to 18"x18". Simply place some polyfill in the center of your square, bunch the fabric around it and tie it with some cute ric rac or a ribbon. Draw eyes on your ghosts and you're all set. Make them a little fancier by adding a layer of lace on top!

Hang and enjoy!

Autumn Wishlist

Ever find yourself window shopping... online? I try not to because everything is so tempting but I just couldn't help myself. I've been seeing a lot of cute stuff recently so I thought I'd put together a little wishlist.

Halloween Favorites

It's been a pretty crazy month. I haven't been able to get into the Halloween spirit as much as I'd hoped but I'm definitely still enjoying some of the things I made last year... minus the candy of course. Here's a mini round-up of a few of my old favorites...

DIY: Glittery Polka Dot Pumpkins

Looking for a simple way to dress up your pumpkins without carving them? One word... GLITTER! I made this polka dot pumpkin using Martha Stewart's foam pouncers (to create perfect circles), glue, and a little black glitter.

Now I want to add glittery polka dots to everything!

Louise!

Photobucket
I finished my costume last night! I'm going as Louise Belcher from Bob's Burgers. It was actually pretty simple... and cheap! I used a McCall's pattern that I found on sale at Joann's for 99 cents and some bright green fleece (also on sale). I already had the pink felt for the hat. The whole thing took me about 3 hours and only cost $12! You can't beat that!

Costume Planning

Halloween is right around the corner and I'm going to be Louise from Bob's Burgers! I decided on this costume a long time ago but I haven't even started and I have a party to go to on Saturday! So... the planning has begun.

I've looked around for the perfect green dress and just can't find the right one so I'm going to have to make it. I'll need a pattern similar to the one above. I've also decided to make the pink bunny ears. My friend Alice and I got these goofy hats at last year's Lobsterfest. I'm going to make a pink "slip-cover" to fit right over the top.

So what do you think? This should only take about an hour, right? HA!

I'll be sure to share pictures when I'm all done!

Just thought I'd check in with a quick Instagram post. I swear I have to put this phone down and use my real camera once in a while. I knew this would happen! Anyway, I'm planning a recipe post soon and brainstorming some fall crafts, so stay tuned!

1.) My favorite ride at a local carnival.
2.) Lunch at Stacked. This was my first time going. As far as burgers go, it's not cheap... but it's SO good that I'll probably go back... maybe for a special occasion.
3.) See's candy from my birthday. All scotchmallows! My favorite.
4.) Part of the turtle crew in my parent's backyard.
5.) A rainy day breakfast... goat cheese and tomatoes on toast.
6.) Another shot from the carnival. There was a garage sale there too! Food, rides, beer and a garage sale? That's my kinda place.

The Historical Landmark Challenge

Lately I've been researching this list quite a bit. I'm beginning to realize that I'm surrounded by historical landmarks here in Los Angeles but I never take the time to visit any of them. It's a shame really. So... I'm proposing a personal challenge. I'm going to make an attempt to visit one historical landmark per month. That doesn't sound very difficult, right? We'll see.

First on my list is the Pio Pico Mansion (pictured above). Why? Well, because it's close and I used to drive by it every day on my way to work. I've always wanted to take a tour so I figured, what better place to start? I'll be sure to bring my camera so I can share my adventures with you guys!

Party Prep

So this weekend is my 26th birthday. I wasn't planning on doing much. I considered just going to a local bar with friends. Then I decided to have a few close friends over instead. Well, that has evolved into what's going to be an outdoor party and I'm pretty excited. I spent all day today getting ready... planning the food I'm going to make, grocery shopping, and most importantly, preparing the decorations! I'll post more photos once I get everything set up. Also, I'm going to have a big birthday sale later this week. 26% off blog ads and both Etsy shops, so stay tuned!

DIY: Faux Leaf Fall Wreath

I wanted to make a fall wreath using real leaves but it doesn't feel or look like fall at all around here! So... I found these paper leaves at the dollar store instead. I'm actually happy I used these because they're pretty sturdy and I can re-use this wreath next year too.

I'm not going to do step-by-step instructions for this DIY because it's pretty self explanatory. I simply cut the wire stems off of the leaves, arranged them on the wreath and hot glued them on. Simple as that!

These leaves would also look great as part of a yarn wreath. I might use this color yarn and a few of the leftover leaves to make a wreath arranged similar to this. The possibilities are endless!

October!

Photobucket

Although it doesn't feel like it, (it was 93 degrees today)... it's finally October! I'm so excited! Not only is it time to decorate for Halloween, but my birthday is less than a week away! Those pumpkins are getting a little makeover this week... I'm thinking a little paint and black glitter should do the trick. Also, I hung a few decorations tonight AND made a fall wreath. I'll be sharing that soon. Happy October, everyone!
