DIY: Burger Cupcakes
I'm calling this a DIY because these cupcakes are more of a project than a recipe. I actually used boxed cake mixes to make these and I'm glad I did because they took a while to put together. I made 4 dozen of them for Super Bowl and they took me about 3 hours. If you have the time, they're definitely worth the effort. I mean, how cute are they?
So here's how I did it...
Start by making a batch of chocolate cupcakes and a batch of yellow cake cupcakes (white would work too). Cut them all in half. I didn't use the chocolate tops. Instead, I saved them in a separate bag and I'm currently still eating them.
Make some vanilla buttercream frosting (I used this recipe) and divide it up into 3 bowls. Dye them red, green, and yellow.
Now place the frosting into ziploc bags and cut a small piece off of the corner to form piping bags. Stack the chocolate bottom on top of the yellow cupcake bottom and pipe the "condiments" on. Form a square for the cheese and just do squiggles for the ketchup and lettuce.
Place the yellow cake top on top of the frosting and smush it down a little. I used toothpicks to hold it all together.
Add sesame seeds (or white nonpareils) to the top if you like. Unfortunately I ran out of time but I think they look great either way.
